Ecosystem Services Trade-Offs and Synergies following Vegetation Restoration on the Loess Plateau of China

چکیده
The Loess Plateau (LP) is a heavily soil-eroded area. Since the year 1999, Chinese government has carried out “Grain for Green Project (GGP)” that focused on increasing regional vegetation coverage. Understanding temporal and spatial variation of ecosystem services synergy in LP important prospective re-vegetation watershed administration. Therefore, three typical watersheds were selected: Huangfuchuan, Dalihe, Yanhe. changes carbon storage (CS), soil conservation (SC), water yield (WY) analyzed by InVEST model from 2000 to 2020. Correlation analysis root mean square deviation (RMSD) used investigate compare trade-offs different (ESs). results showed ES Yanhe overall developed positive direction, increased north south. CS SC correlation watersheds; however, there negative correlations between WY WY. From 2020, among CS, SC, study area descending order Yanhe, Huangfuchuan watersheds, while comprehensive benefits opposite order. provided an essential basis high-quality development ecological environment preservation Yellow River basin.

Regional effects of vegetation restoration on water yield across the Loess Plateau, China
The general relationships between vegetation and water yield under different climatic regimes are well established at a small watershed scale in the past century. However, applications of these basic theories to evaluate the regional effects of land cover change on water resources remain challenging due to the complex interactions of vegetation and climatic variability and hydrologic processes ...
متن کاملA Policy-Driven Large Scale Ecological Restoration: Quantifying Ecosystem Services Changes in the Loess Plateau of China
As one of the key tools for regulating human-ecosystem relations, environmental conservation policies can promote ecological rehabilitation across a variety of spatiotemporal scales. However, quantifying the ecological effects of such policies at the regional level is difficult. A case study was conducted at the regional level in the ecologically vulnerable region of the Loess Plateau, China, t...
متن کاملTrade-Offs and Synergies in Ecosystem Service within the Three-Rivers Headwater Region, China
The Three-Rivers Headwaters region (TRHR) is an ecological shelter located in the northeast of the Tibetan Plateau, China, that provides environmental protection and regional sustainable development. This region also provides ecosystem services including water supply and soil conservation and exerts major impacts on both its surroundings, as well as the whole of China. A number of ecological re...
متن کاملEcosystem service trade-offs and synergies misunderstood without landscape history
Dramatic changes in ecosystem services have motivated recent work characterizing their interactions, including identifying trade-offs and synergies. Although time is arguably implicit in these ideas of trade-offs and synergies (e.g., temporal dynamics or changes in ecosystem services), such interactions are routinely inferred based on the spatial relationships among ecosystem services alone (e....
متن کاملHow ecological restoration alters ecosystem services: an analysis of carbon sequestration in China's Loess Plateau
Restoring disturbed and over-exploited ecosystems is important to mitigate human pressures on natural ecosystems. China has launched an ambitious national ecosystem restoration program called Grain to Green Program (GTGP) over the last decade. By using remote sensing techniques and ecosystem modelling, we quantitatively evaluated the changes in ecosystem carbon sequestration since China's GTGP ...
